The Protect 1206i is a new class of counter-surveillance devices. Unlike all typical search devices, it is capable of detecting modern “covert” bugs that use protocols such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi at a long distance. Such bugs, especially of the Bluetooth type, are virtually undetectable by conventional RF detectors due to their very low transmission power and a specific type of modulation. The Protect 1206i uses a separate channel with a pre-selection mechanism for high (2.4/5 GHz) frequencies to detect and localize Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with much higher sensitivity. The device also then processes the demodulated signal to identify the protocol that was detected. In addition, the device can detect all “classic” bugs and analyze them for correlation by transmitting audio pulses, as well as other digital transmissions at a standard distance (GSM, 3G, DECT, etc.).
